Working as a Staff Member for Ionian Village should not be viewed as a vacation. You will be expected to work a 24-hour day, 7 days a week while camp is in session. While demanding, it is an extremely rewarding experience.

Staff Travel Expenses

Ionian Village covers your round trip airfare between JFK and ATH at the start and end of your summer commitment. Any deviations from this must be approved in advance by the Director and are at your own expense.

Your acceptance as a staff member also includes and full room and board while you are working during the camp sessions. Travel to New York is at your own expense. Any personal shopping while camp is in session is at your own expense. You are responsible for your own travel, lodging, and meals during the three day break in-between sessions.

Staff Member responsibilities at Ionian Village include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Direct supervision of a cabin of 12 to 18 campers with one or two other staff members.
- Supervision of all aspects of the campers’ day: prep times, chapel, cabin clean-up, meals, daily and evening activities, and at all times during excursions.
- Assignment to a specific department, planning and execution of department activities.
- Assignment to and execution of specific duties on excursions.
- Assistance in airport pick-up and drop-off in Athens.
- Any other duties specified by the Director.

Expectations of our Staff Members include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Be able and committed to work June 12 - August 12, 2020. If you are accepted and are no longer to meet the needs of the program, please be prepared to resign your acceptance. 
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times, recognizing that we are guests of the Greek Government and representatives of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
- Be a positive Orthodox Christian role model for campers and others, which includes adhering to camp policies and rules, maintaining cleanliness, punctuality, sportsmanship, table manners, proper dress attire and Orthodox faith and morality.
- Be willing, open, and able to work with teenagers.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm, a sense of humor, patience and self-control.
- Ensure the physical, emotional, spiritual health and safety of the campers.
- Execute and support the camp policies and procedures.
- Work well in close proximity with others throughout the summer.
- Be willing to take charge and motivate others.
- Be able to take direction and constructive criticism.

- No alcohol, drugs or acting out of any kind.
- Extreme care must be exercised in all interpersonal relationships involving staff members and campers.
- Non-professional conduct will not be tolerated and may be grounds for dismissal.

**Staff Members may be sent home or asked to leave the program at any time at the discretion of the Camp Director.**



The Staff Application will open on December 26 and must be completed online. In addition, you must submit the digital creativity portion. All supplemental documents must be received by the deadline of January 21, 2020. Incomplete and late applications will not be considered

Once the office receives your written application, references, and the digital creativity, a video interview will be scheduled.

Social media is a part of our everyday reality. It allows us to share with the world, or at least with our friends and family, more about our lives and our adventures. This year, the 2020 #pickmeforIV wants to see the unique talents and skills that will help you succeed at Ionian Village. Using one of the digital mediums below, create your best representation of what makes you unique. Use the medium that’s most comfortable for you and will best allow you to succeed.
1. A video, no longer than 90 seconds, uploaded to YouTube with the hashtag #PickmeforIV2020
2. A blogpost, no longer than 750 words that must include pictures, uploaded to Medium  with the hashtag #PickmeforIV2020
3. A photo album, no more than 6 pictures, uploaded to a social media site such as facebook, instagram, Flickr  with the hashtag #PickmeforIV2020 
All submissions must be public online and also shared directly, via email, with the Office of Ionian Village ([email protected])

- Are ready to devote yourself fully, not only to the mission of Ionian Village,

but also to our campers and our faith

- Are 21 or older as of August 12, 2020

- Enjoy working with youth and encouraging them to grow in our faith

- Are able to dedicate a whole summer to Ionian Village (serving one session is not an option)

- Are excited about traveling around Greece with teenagers, learning with them,

and acting as a spiritual and physical guide

- Are a dependable individual and exhibit good character

- Want to become a positive influence in the lives of our youth

- Take an active role in our faith

- Work well with others in a close environment, knowing when to be a leader and when to be a follower

- Are ready to give 150% of your energy at all times

- Are willing to take on the intense and demanding physical commitment that is expected of our Staff

- Can love those around you unconditionally
